Making the purchase… the beginning

Where to start buying a deck (Steve Cave Pic)So now it’s pretty clear, I’ve got the bug back again – now I need to go to the next step.  Because after trying out my buddy Ryan’s skateboard, I’m kinda stoked on getting one for myself.

Only – where do I start?

Back when I was a kid, I would have gone straight down to the local skate shop (in my case, it was Cal-Streets in North Van), and bugged the guys who work there.  But after actually being one of “those guys who worked there” in a later life, back when I worked in the mountain bike industry – well, I know how much of a pain in the butt those kids can be.  I also know how intimidating some of those shops can be to the neophyte (did I really use the word “neophyte” on a website about skateboarding?!?  Man… I AM old! ;-) )

But today – we have the Internet (insert cheering and applause).  And since that’s where I find ALL my information these days – obviously, that’s where I’ll look for info on buying a skateboard.  Because after all, there has to be differences in feel and quality… doesn’t there?
